Scott Bertram is an abstract painter whose artistic practice centres around ideas of improvisation, playing with the dynamics of perception, and searching for form that lies just outside of his grasp.
In his paintings, Scott attempts to provide experiences where uncertainties are accepted, form and meaning are impermanent, and parameters are imposed but then broken.
Through the use of improvisation, intuitive structures, and openness to possibilities, Scott is able to proceed with a painting without fixing his view or knowing what the painting will eventually be.
Scott has a BFA from the University of British Columbia Okanagan and an MFA from NSCAD University. He was a semi-finalist in the 12th RBC Canadian Painting Competition and has received many other awards including funding from the BC Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts.
Scott Bertram’s paintings have been shown in solo and group exhibitions across Canada as well as in the USA, Australia, Germany, Mexico, and the UK.
