Joanne Ayley Art I paint bright and colourful landscapes, wildlife and fun flowers using acrylics. I love visual drama and contrast so tend to use lots of sharp edges and complimentary colours. Living on Vancouver Island provides endless inspiration. From our backyard birdhouses and feeders to the fabulous trails, parks and ocean and mountain views there is always something that I feel compelled to capture in my art.
I have always wanted to draw and paint. Although I dabbled over many years and worked as a writer and graphic designer, I didn’t get to dive in until the summer of 2006. A temporary move from Toronto, Ontario to White Rock, B.C. opened the doors for me. That summer I really fell in love with British Columbia and just wanted to put it all down on paper. Since then, I have permanently relocated to B.C., first to South Surrey and now Parksville on Vancouver Island.
Painting both challenges me and gives me a huge sense of accomplishment. I am immensely satisfied when I declare a painting done and move on to the next, and the next and the next. The ideas are lined up in my head and in my photo library just waiting for me to remember the moment I was there or saw that and start the process of capturing those feelings in a painting.
