Art Mates is a group of painters that get together weekly at the OAP Hall in Fanny Bay. The group, with some additions and some subtractions as people come and go, has been meeting at the hall for four or five years. Mostly painting their own subjects with encouragement from others in the group. The discussions range from composition to colour and everything in between!
Mediums include acrylic, pastel, watercolour and pencil. Look for each artist to submit some of their paintings. Art Mates participated in the Studio Tour in 2019, and it was a great success! We must have had close to 100 hundred people come thru on the Saturday. Visitors from as far away as Duncan and Nanaimo, Qualicum Beach and Campbell River. We so enjoyed it, we’re doing it again, and hope to greet lots of friends and family and some new acquaintances as well.

I got a relatively late start painting, it was only ten years ago that I signed up for a drop in class with Teresa Knight, an artist from Union Bay. Wow! Changed everything. I am so thankful that my path took me in that direction. I really love painting! I generally take photos when I am out and about and then paint back at home. I have done plein air workshops; the last two years Teresa Knight has arranged outings to Quadra Island and myself and a few others took advantage of that destination and the beautiful scenery it offers.
I work mostly in acrylic, but have done a bit of watercolor and mixed media. My subjects are usually something in nature, but at times man made objects do sneak in. I look forward to being part of the Studio Tour, hope to see everyone in May!

I have painted in acrylics and occasionally in oils over the past few years. My chosen subject was mainly nature and wildlife. Recently, I was exposed to soft pastels. I was intrigued by the vibrancy and versatility of this medium. I have found the ease and speed of application to be invaluable in plein air painting.
Although I continue to focus on nature, I have also taken on landscapes and some still life.

I am a watercolour painter. My paintings are 8×8″ format – a manageable size for en plein-air excursions [painting outside]. I often use artboards cuz it’s way easier to carry in my backpack when climbing over logs and cliffs while venturing out to find the perfect inspiration for a painting. I have a blog which I post a finished painting weekly. To date there are 60 original paintings all within the theme of beaches.
